Why Movies Reflect Volumes About God!

Who out there is a movie buff? I know I am for sure! I have always had a love for movies, but not until recently did I even think about connecting films and theology. I'm also a theology 'buff' if that's what you can call it.

I love Jesus! I believe that God is the master story teller of the universe. Why wouldn't He be? He has only been around for forever! I love reading the Old Testament stories of the kings of old, murders, prophets, and wars. They are some of the richest text that can be read on planet Earth.

But what I love most about them is that they are God-ordained, God-inspired, and spoken from the very mouth of God. He is truly the master story teller!
When I started pondering this idea, I came across another pastor from Seattle, who actually host a 'Film and Theology' where people come view a movie and talk about what parts reminded them of culture and God.

I do believe that Film is God inspired to a degree. (With man's fallenness for sure, but never the less inspired.) If you have it in your head, NO! I'm not comparing movies to scripture.
With that said, Movies are inspired by God! If God is our creator and we are made in His image and likeness then the creative impulse comes from God! If you truly watch a well made movie for what its worth you can find so many things that point to God!
Tron, Tron Legacy, True Grit, The Dark Knight, The Office, Superman, are just a few that come to mind right now. I believe God loves Drama, Romance, and Comedy. After all He is the one that created it all!
I want to point out that movies also reflect the human condition. Our fallen states as human beings not even beginning to come close to what God calls us to be without Christ.
Im a firm believer in redeeming culture. Redeeming redeemable movies are just one way to do this!
Movies are modern day pulpits. People flock to their local movie theaters and allow directors, actors, producers, and screenplay writers to influence the way they feel, think and act.
Do not mindlessly walk into a movie theater next time go! Be mindful of what you are watching! Look for God's story in there. God has a story, because God inspires!

Don't Waste Your College Years

Well! Its that that time again! Fall semester is upon us and all of us college kids are packed up and ready to start a new term of school. With the sadness I've felt and the excitement, over the past couple of weeks. it has lead me to write this.

A lot and I mean a lot of people are leaving this semester many of my friends are going away. Many people from my church are leaving as well.

I wanted to write this as a message to all of us who are going to college, including myself!

DONT WASTE YOUR COLLEGE YEARS!

College can be one the most fun experiences that anyone could ever have! I'm all about fun! But I'm also about giving God glory! Don't let your college years be wasted by chasing futile things that fade away the next morning! Don't waste your college years chasing relationships that aren't important! Chase after the glory of God!

Let Him use you! Get involved in a Biblically grounded church, wherever you go! Don't waste the years! you have 4-5 good years to make an impact. Don't waste them! This is my plea! That you would preach the Gospel with your lips and your life! Witness to people! The main goal of being a christian is to make others glad in God! God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in him!

Do you not want other people to feel the joy, you have felt? Tell them about Jesus! God has called you to go where you are going! That is the sovereign part! The responsibility is up to you!

In the end, let none say that I have wasted it!

-Godspeed the path

Kenya! Its almost there!

I cant believe my trip is only 11 days away! All I can ask of anyone who reads this is to pray Ephesians 6:19 over me while I am there. "Pray for me also that as I speak that I may make know the mystery of the gospel." Please pray that God's will be done while I'm there. And for safety! My vision for my trip is that God would use me, in any way that he would see fit. Finishing up the last minute things before I leave. Hope I have everything ready! :)
Remember to pray!

Longing for the Kingdom

How can any Christian go any day without longing for the fulfillment of God's everlasting kingdom? I have seen so much suffering in my life, and I am certainly not one to question the sovereign hand of the Almighty, but we must long for the healing of all things! I long for the day that Death will be put to death and will have no more sting. I long for the day that every broken relationship is healed and mended and soldiers lay down their weapons because there will no more war to study! I have and will continue to hold out hope that God's Kingdom will come to pass. I have hope in my sovereign, patient, almighty God!

Over the course of the past six summers, working at camps with children, I have seen hurt, abused, neglected sons and daughters of God. I hold faith that God will work their distress to His good. I have seen, handicapped, terminally ill children with such joy that I couldn't comprehend. I know they look for the day as well, when they no longer have to ride in wheel chairs or hide their hurt from others because God will wipe away their tears.

I want that day..

I want the Kingdom...

I long for it!

Christ IS reigning sovereign! He is sovereign in every single detail of His children's lives. Sin is defeated. Death doesn't have the victory over his children.

But we still long for the day that Christ brings his kingdom to Earth.

When death is no more. No more suffering. No more hospitals. Sorry doctors, you will have to find something else to do after that day!

Come quickly Lord!

Making War

Well, this has been my first blog in over a year! A lot has happened in a year. Some good things and some bad things. Some sad things and glad things. February/March 2011 has been two of the craziest months of my life! With the emotions and hardships of following Jesus no matter what the costs, has become a true reality in my life. Which brings me to write about what is on my heart.

Making war.

I believe with all my heart that the Christian life is a mean streak! Not mean against other people, races, religions, or cultures, but mean against the overwhelming desire to be mean to others, the desire for things of the world. The desire for sin.

Making War. Making war against our sin. This is what life is about. Our Love for Jesus should always outweigh our desire for earthly things. But lets be REAL for a minute. It is NOT always like that. Im not saying that its ok to be like this, but its just a fact of life that we fall. But the good thing about us falling is that our precious saviour is ALWAYS waiting for us to take his hand so we can get back up.

Do you ever get tired of fighting? Do you ever get weary?
Have you heard the story of King David when he did not want to fight?
2 Samuel 11 tells us that in the Spring when the kings went to war, David did not go. What happened when he stayed and did not want to fight? He fell into an adulterous affair with Bathsheba.

He Did Not Fight.
He fell.
Believe me, God did use this for his glory and restored David. But David fell. When he did not want to fight!

Fight your desire! Remember Jesus is the all satisfying bread of life! John 6:35.

Let Jesus satisfy you, Let the saviour refresh you during your battles against sin.

Declare War.

Godspeed on your walk!
